City announces centennial plans - 2 years early
It may be more than 14 months away, but the City of
Galax is announcing its plans for the celebration of its 100th birthday in
2006.
Tonight, Monday, the Centennial Committee will present those plans to the
public at the Rex Theater on Grayson Street, starting at 6:30 p.m.
The "roll-out" will include musical
entertainment refreshments.
After a visual presentation, visitors will learn about a sculpture by artist
Al Frega to commemorate the centennial and plans for signs in the downtown
area.
At 7 p.m., several organizations will share their plans, including the
"First Night" event for Dec. 31, 2005; the Galax School and Arts Council;
Center Street Arts; Galax Public Library; Galax Book Club; Twin County
Railroad Club; and the Arts & Cultural Council of the Twin Counties.
Other projects to be announced are a play about Galax's history being
written by Frank Levering and the possibility of reviving a community mural
project.
The event is set to end between 8-8:30 p.m.
